Don’t want to serve in the Indian Army? Get a Tattoo.

NDTV reported today that the Indian Army will not recruit men with permanent tattoos anywhere on the body – except the arms. The Army says tattoos are a health hazard and can act as carriers for certain diseases.

Brigadier Vinod Raizada, Deputy Director General said, “We have instructions since November that any person with tattoos anywhere on the body, except for the arms, cannot be recruited in the Indian Army.”

Some recruits were turned away at Akhnoor Army recruitment center and were turned away. Many unaware of the new rule. One candidate said, “I had a tattoo inked four years ago; I had no knowledge of this rule.”

This new rule makes NO sense – if you are banning tattoos strictly on a health hazard basis then it shouldn’t matter if they are on your arm, leg, or face! A dirty needle is a dirty needle no matter where it is on the body.
