Stephan Doitschinoff, also known as “Calma”, is one of my favorite artists of all time. He is a self-taught artist from São Paulo, Brazil. As the son of an Evangelical minister, Doitschinoff spent his childhood absorbing the visual vocabulary of religious art. As an artist, he has developed his own unique language and style through imagery that creatively combines Afro-Brazilian folklore with Baroque religious iconography, as well as Alchemic and Pagan symbolism.
Stephan recently posted on his Facebook page that he is looking for 3 men and 3 women in Sao Paulo to participate in his next project called the CRAS TATTOO PROJECT where he will design large scale tattoos of his work for application. There are some prerequisites that unfortunately we don’t qualify (too many tattoos already!) But if you live in Sao Paulo and love Calmas work, this could be your big break.
